Law enforcement warns of unemployment scam

The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office would like to inform the community of a scam that has increased inpopularity recently. Over the last few weeks, multiple reports have been taken in regards to individualsreceiving letters and/or debit cards for unemployment benefits that they did not apply for. The letters areusually addressed to someone else using the recipients’ address. The Department of Economic Securityrequests if any of these letters or debit cards are received, do not activate these cards and contact theirfraud line (1-800-251-2436 or contact them online at fraudreferralexternal.azdes.gov) and also contact theAttorney General’s Office via email or 1-602-542-8888 / 1-520-628-6504.

This time, they would give the ballot proposition a respectable sounding name, tweak a couple of details without really limiting their potential market, and spread the word that this recreational marijuana proposition was “Smart and Safe.” Polling indicated their ploy was working.
