LAKE HAVASU CITY – A Lake Havasu city man has been convicted of child sex offenses at his second trial. The first trial in the case against Thomas Workman, 50, ended in a hung jury in April as the panel was unable to reach unanimous verdicts.
The second trial jury deliberated for more than three hours before returning its verdicts on May 29 in Kingman.
Workman is convicted of three counts of sexual conduct with a minor. Deputy Mohave County Attorney Amanda Claerhout argued that Workman began involving the 13-year-old victim in a broad range of sexual activity in 2019.
Claerhout argued that a second victim suffered years of abuse by Workman beginning when she was seven years old. The jury, however, could not reach a unanimous verdict and was deadlocked on the continuous sexual abuse of a child charge.
Defense attorney Virginia Crews said Workman faces probation to six years in prison at a June 30 sentencing hearing before Mohave County Superior Court Judge Derek Carlisle. A status hearing was scheduled as parties to the case decide how the continuous sexual abuse of a child charge will be resolved.
Options include a third trial focused on the single charge, a plea agreement or dismissal.
