Skubal to be presented with keys to the city

KINGMAN – The City of Kingman is rolling out the red carpet for Tarik Skubal, the Kingman Academy of Learning graduate who was presented the highly coveted American League Cy Young Award on his 28th birthday last month.

City Manager Tim Walsh said Skubal, a left-handed starting pitcher for the Detroit Tigers, is a community inspiration, especially for local youth, and worthy of celebration.

“The Council together, seeing the amazing accomplishments that Tarik’s been able to do, wanted to recognize him,” Walsh said “So, we’ve invited him to Council and we’ll actually be presenting him a key to the city.”

The celebration is scheduled for 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, in the large capacity Board of Supervisors meeting room in the Mohave County Administration facility at 700 West Beale St. in downtown Kingman.

“That was the purpose of going over to the auditorium,” Walsh said. “We do anticipate a great turnout.”

Walsh said the meeting will also be streamed so anyone interested may view the event wherever they may be.

“We’ve reached out to all the schools in the area and invited them to have all the young kids come out to see Tarik,” Walsh said.
