MCC Kingman Campus student awarded the Empowering Diversity Scholarship

Faith Ladson, MCC Kingman Campus student, was awarded the Empowering Diversity Scholarship from the Fiesta Bowl Organization and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona. She received a total of $5,500 to use towards continuing her education.

MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave Community College student Faith Ladson has been awarded the Empowering Diversity Scholarship from the Fiesta Bowl Organization and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona. She was awarded $5,500 to go towards continuing her education. Of the 15 post-secondary scholarship recipients, Ladson was the only student awarded the scholarship that is attending a community college in Arizona.

“This scholarship opportunity has given me more than I can imagine. This scholarship will help me pursue my business and entrepreneurship goals of having my own business one day and being able to afford my classes and books,” she said. “This scholarship made me believe that anything is possible if you go for it and believe in it, and offered me a new sense of purpose to continue my educational journey. I’m beyond grateful to those who created this opportunity for others who need a little boost and assistance.”

Ladson is a student on the Kingman Campus where she’s pursuing her degree in Business and Entrepreneurship. In May, she graduated MCC with her certificate in Entrepreneurship & E-Marketing, and at the same time she graduated from Lee Williams High School with her diploma.

What she enjoys most about the program is the flexibility of being able to complete her degree through online or in-person classes. Ladson has enjoyed learning about writing business plans, and marketing oneself and a business. She decided to attend MCC because of all the great resources it has available like the Early Start Scholarship, and the different degrees and certificates.

“While attending MCC, I found a lot of valuable things about the college like the affordability, and the staff and instructors that are always willing to help to make sure you are successful,” Ladson said.

While going through her dual credit program, she had a workload of high school classes, college classes and two jobs but she had support from her family, especially her mom, to get her work done and make sure she didn’t fall behind.

“Without my mom’s help I know I wouldn’t have made it this far without her direction and her believing in me and my goals. She plays a huge part in my success story,” Ladson said.

After finishing at MCC, she hopes to attend an Arizona state university to pursue a bachelor’s degree in business law and marketing. Her goal is to help other businesses succeed and help them reach their target market.

Ladson graduated from Lee Williams High School at the age of 16. She loves to go on adventures with her family and try new things. Her favorite thing to do in her free time is to watch videos of other people creating their own businesses. Ladson also works two jobs, one at a dental office as a dental assistant and at Chipotle.

The College is currently enrolling students for the fall semester 12-week classes which start Sept. 12 and 8-week classes which start Oct. 14. New and returning students are encouraged to get started by visiting Mohave.edu/Admission. Those interested in learning more about becoming an MCC Bighorn should visit Mohave.edu/Admission.
