Mask town hall draws sparse attendance

KINGMAN – A handful of citizens turned out for what was billed as a hybrid town-hall/workshop Thursday for Mohave County supervisors to gather public input on use of masks and the requirement to wear face cover in Mohave County buildings during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

About a half-dozen people addressed the board of supervisors in person and more than three dozen others submitted written statements. Board clerk Ginny Anderson and deputy county attorney Ryan Espling took turns reading those letters into the record during a 40-minute period.

Anderson said 22 people were opposed while 30 people expressed support for use of masks in county buildings, if not beyond. The diverse input echoed the many hours of similar discussions that have taken place throughout the county and country during city council, school board and many other meeting environments.

The agenda lacked any provision for action, so supervisors said very little and the board meeting was adjourned nearly an hour after it began. The board will conduct another COVID-19 management next Monday at noon, in Kingman.
