Kingman Academy student receives major national scholarship

KINGMAN — Jacob Batty, a senior at Kingman Academy of Learning High School, has been awarded the prestigious Flinn Scholarship for 2025.

Batty is the first student in the history of The Kingman Academy of Learning to receive this honor and only the second Kingman resident, in the 40 year history of the Flinn Scholarship program, to be named  a Flinn Scholar.  The only Kingman student to previously be named a Flinn Scholar was Kingman High graduate  Nourhan Mustafa, MD, who was a Flinn Scholar in 2006.

The Flinn Scholarship, now in its 40th year, is one of the most competitive merit based scholarships in the country. The Scholarship—valued at more than $135,000—covers tuition, fees, housing, and meals at one of Arizona’s public universities, plus study abroad. Each year, about 20 top Arizona high-school seniors are chosen to learn from amazing faculty, business leaders, and civic innovators and join a vibrant, eclectic community—including a powerful alumni network.

The Flinn Foundation is a privately endowed, philanthropic grant making organization established in 1965 by Dr. Robert S. and Irene P. Flinn. Its mission is to improve the quality of life in Arizona to benefit future generations.

In addition to being awarded the Flinn Scholarship, Batty was also nominated by Congressman Paul Gossar for an Air Force Academy appointment, and was accepted as a 2029 Cadet. He was also was awarded an academic scholarship at BYU, in Utah.   However, Batty will be joining the Barret Honors College, at ASU, where he will join the ASU community of Flinn Scholars.  Batty plans on serving a mission for the LDS church after completion of his first academic year.   Kingman Academy student receives major national scholarship
