History event will feature Native American artist

KINGMAN – Sounds of Kingman will present an Our Time Our History event on Feb. 24 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the MCC Building, 309 E. Beale St. The event, entitled “He Stands in the Sun: The Life, Legacy & Art of Kiowa Artist T.C. Cannon: will provide information about Carrie Calisay Cannon from the Cadda tribe.

His Kiowa Indian name is “He Who Stands in the Sun” or Pai-doung-u-day. He is considered one of the most talented Native American artists of the 20th century whose paintings continue to influence new generations of Native artists. Cannon utilized striking color combinations, bold juxtapositions, and artfully portrayed motifs, irony, and humor deeply rooted in his cultural heritage.

The next Our Time Our History presentation will be March 16, and feature Jim Hinckley.

Sounds of Kingman also hosts a Concerts in the Park series at Metcalf Park from 4 to 6 p.m. on the following dates: April 21, May 5, June 23, July 21, Aug. 18, and Sept. 22.
