Element Fire winding down

KINGMAN – Crews working to suppress the lightning sparked Element wild fire have held acreage to 5,364 acres 12 miles north of Kingman as the Bureau of Land Management demobilizes and reassigns personnel.

While 166 people had once been assigned to the fire that had threatened some homes in the Vock Canyon area, the firefighting force had been reduced to 93 people by Wednesday morning. Previous designations of “Set” and “Ready” status for evacuation directives have been lifted.

“Containment increased to 40%,” the Bureau of Land Management said. “The Wildfire Information Line will be deactivated Thursday, August 15.”

Fire managers continue to ask the public to avoid the northwest area of the fire perimeter around Big wash Road.
