MOHAVE COUNTY – The Mohave College Women’s Soccer team earned a 5-2 win over Paradise Valley Community College on Aug. 24 as the Bighorns continued the early part of their 2026 season.
Mohave got on the scoreboard early when Estephanie Montiel-Silva, midfielder, scored in the 13th minute to give the Bighorns a 1-0 lead. Brianne Kumashiro, midfielder, added another goal in the 37th minute with help from Sanyi Thompson, forward, sending Mohave into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
Paradise Valley scored its first goal in the 56th minute, but Mohave responded just two minutes later when Montiel-Silva scored her second goal of the game to make it 3-1.
Linita Kioa, defender, added another goal for the Bighorns in the 65th minute. Montiel-Silva completed her three-goal performance in the 79th minute with help from Jasmine Furr, forward, giving Mohave a 5-1 lead.
Paradise Valley scored once more in the 83rd minute, bringing the final score to 5-2.
Mohave finished the game with 13 shots, including 11 on goal, while Paradise Valley recorded two shots.
“The team has been working incredibly hard and has really improved,” said women’s head soccer coach, Robert Podeyn. “We finished our non-conference schedule at 2-2-0 and now have 10 days to prepare for our first conference game at Yavapai on the 12th. We are working hard and having a lot of fun growing as a team and will be ready to start our conference games this month.”
The Bighorns will return to action Sept. 12 on the road against Yavapai College.
