Edward Lovell Rush, of Kingman, Arizona, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of service, kindness, and deep love for his family and community.
Born in Phoenix, Arizona on January 22, 1950, he moved to Kingman in 1960 and spent more than six decades watching this small desert town grow into the thriving community it is today. He knew its backroads, its stories, and its history better than anyone, and one of his greatest joys was acting as a tour guide for newcomers — showing them the hidden places, the old landmarks, and the memories woven into the landscape.
He served honorably in the United States Navy, carrying the discipline, pride, and camaraderie of that service throughout his life. After returning home, he built a long and dedicated career as a Technical Test Technician for Ford Proving Ground, retiring after 33 years. He loved to drive — not just for work, but for the sense of freedom it gave him, the quiet of the desert, and the thrill of exploring Arizona’s backcountry.
He was fiercely independent, living life on his own terms and meeting every challenge with determination. That independence shaped the way he moved through the world — capable, always ready to lend a hand to anyone who needed help. He had a heart of gold, and his generosity was steady and sincere.
A proud member of the Moose Lodge, he found friendship, laughter, and community there. He especially enjoyed playing poker with his fellow members, sharing stories and good-natured competition.
Fishing and gardening were past-times he truly loved, and he shared them with everyone he cared about. He taught his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and even their children how to cast a line, respect the water, and enjoy the simple peace of being outdoors. Those lessons — often given with a patient hand and a proud smile — will be treasured.
Preceded in death by his parents, Lovell and Lorene Rush, he is survived by his “Sis” Betty (Rush) Tyra; his son and daughter-in-law Justin and Brooke Rush; his daughter and son-in-law Amy (Rush) and Chip Stouffer; and his grandchildren Makayla, Peyton, Harper, and Gwendolyn. He also leaves behind 1 niece, 2 nephews, 3 great‑nieces, 5 great‑nephews, and 4 great‑great‑nieces, all of whom carry pieces of his spirit.
He will be remembered for his kindness, his stories, his love of the open road, and the way he made everyone feel welcome.
The family would like to thank Moose Lodge #1704 for hosting a celebration of life on August 15. We will forever cherish the thoughtfulness and care that went into the celebration.
Sutton Memorial Funeral Home handled his arrangements.
