Detroit Auto Show Route 66 Centennial Caravan to stop in Kingman next month

KINGMAN – The City of Kingman and the Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona will welcome the Detroit Auto Show’s Route 66 Centennial caravan on January 4–5 as part of “The Drive Home VII: Route 66 – A Century of Adventure,” a cross-country journey celebrating the legacy of America’s most iconic highway.

The journey begins January 3 in Santa Monica, California, and follows the historic Route 66 corridor east toward Detroit, Michigan. After traveling through Barstow, California, the caravan will arrive in Kingman on January 4. While in the community, participants will stop for dinner at Rickety Cricket and spend the night in Kingman before departing the following morning after breakfast at Mudd on Route 66.

The Kingman stop is part of the lead-up to the “Detroit Auto Show: Route 66 Centennial Exhibition,” scheduled for January 14–25 at Huntington Place in Detroit. The exhibition has been officially designated an Official Route 66 Centennial Project by the U.S. Route 66 Centennial Commission.

“Kingman has long been recognized as the heart of Historic Route 66 in Arizona,” said Josh Noble with the City of Kingman’s Office of Tourism. “Being included as a stop on this officially designated Route 66 Centennial Project highlights our community’s deep connection to the Mother Road and the role Kingman continues to play in preserving its history and welcoming travelers from around the world.”

As an officially designated Centennial Project, the Detroit Auto Show: Route 66 Centennial Exhibition will be featured on route66centennial.org, highlighting communities along the route that continue to celebrate the road’s cultural and historical significance.  The journey will also be documented in real time through “The Drive Home VII: Route 66 – A Century of Adventure.”  Jim O’Brien, host of Big Jim’s House Morning Show on 94.7 WCSX in Detroit, will take daily call-ins from the road, while the Detroit Auto Show will capture and share the caravan’s experience across its social media platforms.

Kingman’s inclusion in this national Route 66 Centennial initiative reinforces the City’s role as a key destination along the historic highway and a gateway to Route 66 experiences in Arizona.
