Growing young

Dear Editor, Where are all the young adults? I cannot help but notice the deteriorating number of young adults, age 18- to , in our community. Over the last two years, I have decided to spend some time finding out why they are leaving. Their responses have painted a grim image of hopelessness, as they have been unable to find their place in a town that seems set on growing old instead of growing young. Kingman is being robbed of the influence of these dynamic world-changers as they continue to vanish because they are simply being ignored. For nearly two…

Reader disgruntled with pharmacy policy

Dear Editor, Are you aware that a local pharmacy, in Kingman, changed their opioid prescribing policy on August 19? The new policy limits prescriptions to 90 pills/patient/month. I was receiving 120/month for the past two years. I found out about the policy change when I went to pick up my prescription on Friday, September 6. I was told at the pickup window and given the option of either taking the 90 or having scrip filled elsewhere. Since it was a Friday afternoon, I knew my doctor’s office would be extremely busy, but I called anyway to try and get them…

Having served on the frontlines of public safety: Government controlled health insurance puts us all at risk

Dear Editor, No public health issue is as important as being able to access high-quality, affordable health care. I believe we all can agree on this. Growing up, I always wanted to be a firefighter, and I’m grateful that I was able to serve my community as a first-responder. Helping those in need was always my dream, which is why, back in 2012—after responding to far too many distracted driving-related crashes—I launched the nonprofit Look! Save A Life in Southern Arizona, to help “foster an environment of safety for all who utilize our public roads”. Then, in 2013, I became…

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Dear Editor, On September 16, the Mohave County Board of Supervisors signed a Proclamation designating October Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This month is designated to bring awareness to communities of this nationwide epidemic. The goal is to educate, create conversations and create culture changes within the community. Domestic violence is a pattern of controlling behaviors where one person uses their power to control the other. Domestic violence can take many forms, including physical, sexual, emotional, and financial abuse. It is not isolated to any one gender, race, economic situation, or upbringing. Our state has seen the damage this issue can…

White Nationalist, patriot are not interchangeable

Dear Editor, Read Don Heck’s letter from the Sept. 15 edition. While I agree with much of what he espouses; although I question his denigration of the media in general, if the facts are reported and you don’t like what you read / hear, you cannot just lambaste reports as fake news. I have to say, Mr. Heck does know how to put a spin on his opinion though. His quote, “Author – An old white Nationalist … is a real patriot,” would lead most to think he is a nationalist who is white. However, do as he suggests. Google…

Freedom

Dear Editor, Hello, it’s the Nelson family again. I guess I should say my title is White Nationalist. I’m very sad, I just heard that 57% of young Americans believe the lies of socialism. In case you haven’t figured it out, I’m a Christian activist. I’m also a person that was born in WWII, in high school required reading was George Orwell’s “1984.” I’m sure the left has made sure that is has been banned from high school for many years. As Christians, we have to stand up to the left’s fallacy of socialism’s attack on our young people –…
