Dear Editor, You may know someone who has Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD), a serious genetic disorder in which cysts grow in and around the kidneys, and affects more than 600,000 people in the US. Former Kingman resident, Toni Stuart, has the disease in both kidneys. She was Business Manager for several years at Kingman Fitness and Racquet Club (KFRC) on Kino Ave, until she and her husband Dennis moved to North Las Vegas to be near medical care. She lives with constant pain since the cysts filling up with fluid cause the kidneys to grow. Her friends at the KFRC…

Family recovering after crash

To my family and friends I want to thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers through this nightmare that we have been living for the past few days. This past Sunday my sister and her family were driving home to North Carolina from our tia Julia’s funeral. Early Monday morning they were in a terrible accident. The girls were in such critical condition that…

Reader unhappy with emergent medical care

Dear Editor, I have been suffering from shortness of breath and minor heart issues attributed to this making my heart slow or stop beating.  This has caused me to be hospitalized at KRMC several times over the past 12 months, having three stints put in and a pacemaker.  Again, Tuesday morning, I was fighting severely for breath and plummeting blood pressure, so I made my way to the ER at KRMC approximately 8:30 a.m. where I was quickly taken to an exam room and a staff of professionals examined me.   Again, a familiar level of concern came over their faces…

That’s right my taxpaying friend, the guilty get a free attorney. And guess who doesn’t get a free attorney? Right again! The crime victim is expected to pay. Here is a question for all to really think on. Yes, even pray on for justice. It’s written in our pledge of allegiance: For liberty and justice for all. But guess who comes out on that deal?…

Please respect the homeless

A person would think hunger and the inconvenience of living in a car, seeking shelter in a cardboard box or sleeping on a sidewalk is the worst part of being homeless. It isn’t. Yes, going for two or three days with little food, unable to shower or practice proper hygiene plus the indignities, embarrassment and humiliation of being both broke and homeless are pretty tough things to deal with. But the topper, the worst part of being homeless . . . is being degraded by those in charge of affording some type of temporary assistance. I say this with certainty…
