Dear Editor, My extended family seems to be feeling the pinch this holiday season. They have all voted to scotch the expensive gift-giving this Christmas, and just give each other time. Tell that to 1% America though. They have had a banner couple of years. A couple of notable indicators of their successes can be ascertained from public reports of big city gala events and advertisements in very selective media. Dear Editor, The Kingman Downtown Merchants Association (KDMA) would like to thank all organizers, participants, volunteers, merchants, the City of Kingman, and our community for supporting the annual kick-off to the holidays with the tree lighting, the Very Merry Christmas ‘Street of Lights’ displays, and the Mingle Jingle Christmas Bazaar. The festivities began with the City of Kingman’s ‘Light Locomotive Park’ with the dedication and tree lighting ceremonies by the Mayor Jen Miles and City Manager, Ron Foggin, followed by City Council members and Santa. Dear Editor, We had difficulties when we were growing up in Martin County, Kentucky but, overall, we thought we were doing okay. President Lyndon Johnson came to Inez, Kentucky in 1964 to let us know we weren’t doing very well. He began his campaign in our community and we became the poster child for American poverty. We hadn’t really thought of ourselves as poor until we started hearing about ourselves in the news. I had numerous friends who didn’t get much for Christmas. Praise for the Street of Lights, Mingle Jingle celebrations

Dear Editor, Following what has become a Christmas tree lighting tradition at Locomotive Park, kicked off by Mayor Miles this past Saturday, Dec. 4, Christmas celebrations in downtown Kingman were lit up. The celebrations were followed by a Street of Lights, which replaced the longstanding Parade of Lights that Kingmanites have enjoyed for many years and the 2nd year running of the Mingle Jingle.
