Allison armed robbery spree plea deal rejected

A local judge has rejected the plea agreement proposed for one of three men charged in an armed robbery spree of Kingman area businesses. Judge Billy Sipe said last Thursday that the deal was improperly structured for him to impose the 21-28 year punishment it required in the case against Francis Allison, 59. Judge Sipe also said the agreement was too lenient anyway and that he believes each of the three co-defendants probably deserve a life prison sentence. Allison originally faced 56 felony charges in ten cases. Seven of them, and 51 charges, were to be dismissed in the proposed…

$35 million KUSD bond to go to voters

Board member Jenny Shumway tempered her previous opposition to the initiative, noting that the voters will ultimately decide the question. But she questioned how the proposal skyrocketed to $35-million when voters might be more inclined to approve $18-million and $26-million options that were rejected during Tuesday’s meeting. “My concern is that this will perhaps be a deal breaker and that they’re going to see this number, the voters, and we’re going to lose it all,” Shumway said. “That’s a concern because the numbers that have kept going out are completely different than these numbers.” Board Chairman Charlie Lucero said that…

Felix thankful after eight year prison sentence

A Bullhead City man involved in a violent robbery thanked his attorney and Judge Billy Sipe when he was sentenced to prison for eight years Thursday. Ernie Felix, 29, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in a deal that dismissed armed robbery, kidnapping and burglary charges. Felix and co-defendant Sigifredo Herrera-Arteaga, 32, reportedly accosted the victim in the driveway of his home in the 1800 block of Montclair Drive in July, 2017. Prosecutor Kellen Marlow said Herrera-Arteaga dragged the man from a vehicle and pistol whipped him in the head, telling him he was going to kill him. Police said the…
