MCC student loan default rate dramatically drops, now beats national average

MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave Community College students are proving to be fiscally responsible, helping cut the college student loan default rate in half. The most recently available figures show the 2016 fiscal year cohort default rate for MCC is 14.8%, which is below the national average of 15.9% for two-year public institutions. The college’s rate has continuously dropped since 2010 when it was 32.7%. Much of the credit for the dramatic rate drop can be found inside the MCC Financial Aid Office. The Kingman Rt. 66 Street drags is as unique an event as there can be. The Drags will be closing down Rt 66/Andy Devine in downtown Kingman Friday through Sunday, Oct. 25 through 27. Races are Friday from noon to 9 p.m.; Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $10 on Friday, $15 daily Saturday and Sunday. Car/driver registration is $125.

Stabbing victim was Good Samaritan

KINGMAN – On Sunday, October 20, at about 3 a.m., Kingman Police arrested Bryan Forbes, 25, of Modesto, Calif., on a felony charge of aggravated assault. According to a press release, officers responded to the 1700 block of Beverly Ave., regarding the report of a person having been stabbed. Officers observed Forbes in the area, holding a knife. The victim, a 27-year-old Kingman man, was located and treated for a stab wound to his arm. The victim reported Forbes chasing a woman, and that he attempted to intervene.
