Route 66 spirit fuels “6 by 6” art show at Kingman Center for the Arts

KINGMAN — In a community of just under 36,000 residents, Route 66 isn’t just a historic highway — it’s part of Kingman’s identity. That deep connection to the Mother Road is the inspiration behind the latest exhibit at the Kingman Center for the Arts gallery, where local artists are celebrating the town’s heritage one small canvas at a time.

The show, titled “6 by 6,” invites gallery‑affiliated artists to purchase a 6‑inch‑by‑6‑inch canvas, create an original piece of art, and donate it back to the gallery. The works are first offered through a silent auction, followed by general gallery sales continuing through November 14. The fundraiser has become a popular way for artists to support the gallery while showcasing creativity in a compact format.

The Kingman Center for the Arts gallery remains one of the city’s most active artistic hubs, hosting as many as four open‑submission shows each year along with two featured artist exhibits, bringing the annual total to roughly six shows. Its gift shop also provides a retail outlet for up to 150 local artists, giving creators a year‑round outlet for their work.

Once the Route 66‑themed “6 by 6” show wraps up, the gallery will shift gears to its next major event — a Featured Artist Show scheduled to open November 21.

The “6 by 6” exhibit runs now through November 14 at the Kingman Center for the Arts gallery in downtown Kingman.
