Kingman team hosts tournament; play starts this morning

The City of Kingman and a local team are hosting a portion of a prestigious senior softball tournament this weekend. Based in Sacramento, California, the Senior Softball USA has moved its Spring World National Championship tournament from St. George, Utah to Kingman and Bullhead City. Some 38 teams are competing at Rotary Park in Bullhead City and 36 teams are battling at the seven field Centennial Park Complex in Kingman.  Winners of the various age divisions and bracketed levels of play qualify for the National Tournament of Champions held in Florida each February. Adcox sentenced to six years on drug charges

A near seven-year prison term has been imposed for a Kingman man whose drug addiction led him on a year-long crime spree. Christopher Adcox, 30, leaves behind six young children, including 18-month-old twins. Family members speaking during the March 15 sentencing hearing said Adcox was a productive citizen and responsible father before drugs took hold of his life. Busy Weekend for Sports Tourism in Bullhead City

Bullhead City Recreation Division is hosting two sporting events this weekend at Rotary Park along with Mohave High School’s MEC Invitational Track meet. The first event is the Bye Bye Birdie pickleball tournament hosted by the City of Bullhead City and pickleballtournaments.com. Games will be hosted at Rotary Park’s newly developed pickleball courts. Alleged drug dealer busted in drive-thru

A Peach Springs man faces mandatory prison after his belligerent behavior got him busted in the drive-thru of a fast food restaurant. Police reports indicate that Danny Powsey, 48, drew attention to himself when he acted rudely when interacting with staff at the drive-thru window of the Taco Bell on Andy Devine Avenue in Kingman. Deputy Mohave County attorney Kellen Marlow said an employee spotted an open container of beer in the interior of Powsey’s vehicle. Only 48 hours after the TCU and Cal football teams finished an overtime battle in the Cheez-It Bowl, 80,000 square feet of turf had been taken up from the stadium floor. One arrested in fatal hit-and-run; two others sought

The Department of Public Safety has identified some of the parties involved and provided more information about a hit and run traffic accident that fatally injured a teenager in Fort Mohave. The agency said that Taylor Young, 18, Fort Mohave succumbed to her injuries on March 16, the day after she was struck while trying to cross Highway 95 near Camp Mohave Rd. DPS spokesman Bart Graves said investigators determined that three drivers left the scene when vehicles they were operating struck Taylor.
