Single-day COVID-19 surge sparks concern

MOHAVE COUNTY – A single day surge of 33 news cases last Friday is testament to the fact that COVID-19 is not slowing down in Mohave County. That’s one of the points Department of Public Health Director Denise Burley made during Monday’s Board of Supervisors meeting. “For the last three weeks we’ve seen a pretty steady increase; 30%, then 12% and then a 19% increase in cases from previous weeks,” Burley said. ArtHub opens for art education classes

KINGMAN – As Kingman eases out of the COVID-19 restrictions and stores open up, the Kingman Center for the Arts is easing back into what will be their second 2020 session of art education classes held at the ArtHub in downtown Kingman at the corner of Beale Street and Fourth Street (402 E Beale Sr). MOHAVE COUNTY – Late Sunday afternoon, the Mohave County Health Department (MCDPH) Nursing staff was notified of eleven new COVID-19 confirmed cases and one death.  The death is that of a 70-79 year age range person in the Bullhead City service area. Of the 11 new cases, 8 are in the Bullhead City service area.  Seven of those have their cases under investigation. One is 19-29; three are 30-39; one is 50-59; two are 60-69. The eighth case is a 60-69 age range person who is recovering at home and linked to another case. Of the three remaining cases, two…

Mom killer gets life sentence

KINGMAN – A Kingman man who killed his girlfriend’s mother was given a “life prison” sentence during a June 5 hearing at the Mohave County courthouse. The punishment is mandated in the plea agreement for Mark Baldonado, 32. Superior Court Judge Derek Carlisle explained that Baldonado may never get out of prison but he would have to serve 25 calendar years before his release becomes possible. Baldonado told the Court that he was messed up on drugs in the period leading up to the homicide. He said getting off drugs and finding God while jailed will help him rehabilitate and…
