COVID-19 update: 137 new cases, two deaths Wednesday

MOHAVE COUNTY – Late Wednesday afternoon, the Mohave County Health Department (MCDPH) Nursing staff was notified of 137 new COVID-19 confirmed cases. There are also two deaths in the Bullhead City service area. There are 61 new cases in the Lake Havasu City service area. There are 59 cases in the Bullhead City service area. There are 15 cases in the Kingman service area. The final two cases are both in the North County service area. The two Bullhead City area deaths are 50-59 and 80-89. Vehicle accident causes power outage in Mohave Valley

BULLHEAD CITY – Mohave Electric members experienced a power outage at 3:17 a.m. Wednesday, July 15. The outage affected approximately 788 members in Mohave Valley. The outage was caused when a vehicle struck a support wire at the corner of Hwy 95 and Hulet Dr. causing it to break free and wrap around the overhead lines. After waiting for clearance from medical personnel, MEC crews were able to make repairs and restore power shortly after 6:00 a.m. Outage restoration is important to MEC, and every effort is made to restore power as quickly and safely as possible. Two new COVID-19 cases at Mohave County Jail

KINGMAN – Two more inmates in the Mohave County Adult Detention Facility tested positive on Monday for COVID-19. The inmates, currently housed in medical isolation cells in the jail, will continue to be monitored and provided treatment as necessary. The inmates are male, in the 20 to 29 and 50 to 59 age groups and both came into jail custody in late June and are residents of the Kingman service area. “Both of these new cases appear to be linked to a previous positive case. LAKE HAVASU CITY – A boating fatality on Lake Havasu has been ruled an accident for which no criminal charges will be filed. The Mohave County attorney’s office has determined that prosecution is unwarranted in the August 21, 2019 death of Adam Gomez, 17, Redondo Beach. Gomez was one of four teenagers and one of their mothers, Raina Phillips, aboard a boat that was cruising Lake Havasu when the boys decided to jump into the water. McDonald gets prison for boat sale fraud

LAKE HAVASU CITY – A former Lake Havasu City businessman is going to the Arizona Department of Corrections after a Mohave County judge rejected pleas for probation Thursday. Tim McDonald, 48, was given a 4.5-year prison sentence, the maximum punishment possible under terms of a plea agreement accepted by judge Billy Sipe. Deputy Mohave County attorney James Schoppmann told a trial jury that McDonald formerly operated the Offshore Custom Marine boat consignment business in Lake Havasu.
