Burgess bounced from ballot after ruling that majority of petition signatures are invalid

BULLHEAD CITY – Colorado River Union School District (CRUHSD) Governing Board President Kerry Burgess has been disqualified as a candidate for re-election in the November 3 general election. Mohave County Superior Court Judge Lee Jantzen ruled Thursday that plaintiff Royanne Ortiz prevailed in the lawsuit she filed challenging nominating petitions that Burgess submitted early this month to qualify his campaign. Central to her case was Ortiz’ contention that 25 of the 27 petitions turned in by Burgess failed to have been signed by circulators as is required under Arizona law. Topock tantrum ends in arrest

TOPOCK – A Topock man busted up a residence during a drunken rage, according to the Mohave County Sheriff’s office. Deputies reportedly responded about 3:00 p.m. Monday to a Topock residence in the 4500 block of Park Drive where they encountered Jacob Michael Kennedy, 23, in the driveway yelling at people. Acting sheriff’s office spokeswoman Sandy Edwards said Kennedy was taken into custody after a brief struggle. Edwards said two vehicles parked on the property had broken windows. COVID-19 update: 70 new cases, five deaths

MOHAVE COUNTY – Late Monday afternoon, the Mohave County Health Department (MCDPH) Nursing staff was notified of 70 new confirmed COVID-19 cases. There are also five deaths from previously reported cases. Three are from the Lake Havasu City service area. One was in the 50-59 year age range; one was 60-69; one was 80-89. The other two deaths are both in the Kingman service area.  One was 40-49 and the other was 80-89. Of the 70 new cases, 45 are in the Bullhead City service area.
