KINGMAN, Ariz. – Contentious comments by the victim and the defendant punctuated an Aug. 18 sentencing hearing in a Dolan Springs arson case. There was little other mystery or drama as a 10.5-year prison term was stipulated in a plea agreement entered for Edward Chrzan.
The 49-year-old defendant was homeless when provided a place to stay by a Good Samaritan months ago. A Probable Cause statement indicated the property owner told the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office that Chrzan had threatened several times in early June and was “acting all crazy” on June 7.
The victim told investigators that he noticed his travel trailer was burning and that he saw Chrzan fleeing on foot. The fire spread to another trailer and both structures were destroyed.
The defiant defendant was unapologetic for the victim’s loss.
“I’m not sorry for this. In my eyes, he got what he had coming,” Chrzan said.
Minutes later, the victim was asked for his input.
“I’m a little angry for that right now,” the man said. “I’d just like to tell him I hope he gets what he deserves.”
The plea deal convicts Chrzan of arson of an occupied structure because people were in a mobile home in close proximity to the burned trailers.
