Ten-year sentence for man who stabbed his dad

A Lake Havasu City man who stabbed his own father is going to the Arizona Department of Corrections after entering a plea agreement in Kingman on Wednesday, May 22. Markos Martinez, 22, pleaded guilty to two aggravated assault charges and possession of drug paraphernalia. Officers responding to an August, 2018 report of a stabbing at a home in the 3600 block of Swordfish Drive encountered the victim outside his house, clutching his left wrist which was bleeding. The Kingman Police Department held its 16th Annual Awards Ceremony on Thursday, May 16, during National Police Week.  The 2019 Officer of the Year is Officer Adam Simonsen; Civilian Employee of the Year is Neighborhood Service Officer Sam Kurtz; Explorer of the Year is Lilith Bennett; and Volunteer of the Year is William Kriekel.  A highlight of the ceremony was when eight-year old Dylan DeWolf was recognized with a Citizens Appreciation and Life Saving Award.  Dylan was responsible for helping to save the life of another young boy who became trapped under a heavy trailer.  Dylan came to the aid of…

Defendant skips out at trial lunch break

A Lake Havasu City man is a fugitive from justice after skipping out during the middle of trial before he was convicted on May 17. Richard Fender, 61, failed to return to the courthouse following the lunch break, and a warrant for his arrest was issued after he was convicted of transportation and possession of dangerous drugs for sale late Friday afternoon. Fender asked prosecutor Reed Weisberg if he would offer a better plea agreement Friday morning before the trial began. Local woman sentenced in fraud schemes

Long stole from school district program, elderly bank customer A 6.5-year prison sentence has been ordered for a Kingman woman who stole from her school district employer for nearly five years before she ripped off an elderly customer while working as a bank teller. Deborah Long, 44, was sentenced Friday by Mohave County Superior Court Judge Derek Carlisle. Long was one of the first two employees hired when the Western Arizona Vocational Education (WAVE) district was established in 2009. Vizcara gets 24 years for role in double kidnap-murder

A second defendant has been sentenced for his involvement in the abduction-murders of two Bullhead City residents in a remote desert area of Fort Mohave. The 24-year prison term imposed during Thursday’s sentencing hearing for 29-year old Jose Vizcara was the harshest punishment possible under terms of a plea agreement convicting him of two counts of kidnapping. At-large former drug dealer convicted

A former Desert Hills resident who sold significant quantities of drugs in the Lake Havasu City area and beyond was convicted in absentia at his jury trial in Kingman. A Mohave County Superior Court jury deliberated for less than 15 minutes May 16 before finding David Allen Muehlhausen, 59, guilty of all seven felony offenses.   Prosecutor Kellen Marlow told the jury that Muehlhausen sold drugs to a confidential informant who was working for law enforcement.
