13th Annual Walk Away from Drugs & Public Safety Expo slated

KINGMAN – Join the City of Kingman, Kingman Police Department, Mohave County Sheriff Department and Kingman Fire Department  on Wednesday, Oct. 16, in their 13th Annual Walk Away From Drugs & Public Safety Expo. This will be happening at three starting points: Smith’s Food and Drug, Firefighter Park and Mother Road Harley Davidson. The ending point will be Centennial Park near the north softball fields. Hot dogs and refreshments will be provided to participants by the Powerhouse Kiwanis & Moose Lodge 1704. Search for new police chief begins; Devries to retire next May

KINGMAN – Finding a new police chief will be Ron Foggins’ first major personnel task during his tenure as Kingman City Manager. Kingman Police Department Chief Bob Devries will end a 40-year law enforcement career when he retires early next May. Drug dealer gets five-year sentence

KINGMAN – A Lake Havasu City drug dealer was sentenced to a five-year prison term Wednesday. The punishment Mohave County Superior Court Judge Derek Carlisle imposed for Chad Van Allen, 32, was mandated in a plea agreement. Van Allen pleaded guilty to possession of dangerous drugs for sale, possession of narcotic drugs for sale and manufacturing dangerous drugs. Van Allen possessed about 28 grams of methamphetamine when arrested at his place of employment last December, according to Lake Havasu City police. Prosecutor Amanda Claerhout said he also possessed a usable amount of heroin and 16 grams each of marijuana and…

Arsonist pleads to setting neighbors car afire

KINGMAN – Authorities say it was an ongoing feud that resulted in a Kingman man torching the inside of his neighbor’s vehicle. Everett Coulter, 64, pled guilty Wednesday to arson of a structure. Police reports indicate Coulter allegedly used flammable material and cloth to light the inside of his neighbor’s vehicle at 3130 North Prescott Street on July 22. Prosecutor Jacob Cote said the vehicle sustained significant damage, but no one was injured. The plea agreement introduced before Judge Doug Camacho dismisses a criminal damage charge. Officers take down man resisting arrest at courthouse

KINGMAN – Constable Ray Cullison helped three officers take down a Texas man who tried to avoid arrest and escape from the Mohave County Courthouse in downtown Kingman Wednesday, Oct. 9. A detention officer was attempting to handcuff and arrest Sideon Johnson when the 21-year-old from Pflugerville slapped his hands away and bolted through the double doors of Superior Court Judge Derek Carlisle’s courtroom at about 11:49 a.m. Johnson was the subject of a bond revocation hearing and he broke free when the officer tried to place him in custody.
