Sekel sentenced for drive-by homicide

BULLHEAD CITY – Sentence was imposed Wednesday for one of three men who were charged with murder, attempted murder and other charges for a deadly drive-by shooting a year ago in Bullhead City. Kevin Hurtado, 24, was killed and his wife was wounded by gunfire resulting from what had been an ongoing dispute. Brent Sekel, 24, entered a plea agreement convicting him of lesser offenses, including hindering prosecution and facilitation of a drive-by shooting. MOHAVE COUNTY – Several Colorado River community drug cases were handled during Friday hearings conducted at the Mohave County courthouse in Kingman. The harshest outcome was afforded Austyn Bird, 24, Bullhead City. Judge Billy Sipe imposed the 9.25-year prison term stipulated in the plea agreement convicting Bird in three felony cases while two others are dismissed. Bird pleaded guilty two sale of narcotic drug charges and two counts of possession of narcotic drugs for sale, offenses committed in March, May and April of this year. KINGMAN – Two Kingman men nabbed in an undercover sting investigation targeting adult males preying upon minors made separate Nov. 11 court appearances involving their plea agreements. Judge Billy Sipe imposed a five-year prison term for Michael Shaw, 30. Shaw pleaded guilty to attempted sexual conduct with a minor and luring a minor for sexual exploitation. Two arrested in LHC on separate drug charges

LAKE HAVASU CITY – Lake Havasu City police separate drug busts this week. Police said David Obermeyer, 69, was arrested following a Tuesday search of his home in the 3000 block of Pepperwood Drive. Officers reportedly seized 7 ounces of methamphetamine from the residence. The other arrest occurred after officers spotted a subject in the 2900 block of Kiowa Avenue who was known to be named in warrants issued for his arrest.
