Miller’s Folly: The sunken treasure of Lake Havasu

LAKE HAVASU CITY – The Lake Havasu Museum is giving the community the opportunity to discover some real life pioneers.  Miller’s Folly is the name of a 60-foot-long double-decker paddlewheel boat designed and built by Simon (Sy) Miller. During the 1960s and 1970s, Miller’s Folly was the ideal party boat for many Havasu families.  Originally from North Dakota, Miller was born in 1920.  After retuning home from the military at the age of nineteen, Miller married Estelle Hickey.   By 1960, the Miller family moved to Salton Sea in Desert Shores, Calif., along with their two children, Michael and Victoria. Suspected case of Naegleria fowleri investigated in Mohave County

MOHAVE COUNTY – Public health officials from Mohave County and the Arizona Department of Health Services are working together on a suspected case of Naegleria Fowleri. Specimens were sent Oct. 24 to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for testing.  The CDC says Naegleria fowleri is commonly known as the “brain-eating ameba.” It’s a free-living ameba (a single-celled living organism), so small that it can only be seen with a microscope. It is commonly found in warm fresh water (such as lakes, rivers, and hot springs) and soil. LAKE HAVASU CITY – Have you ever wondered where your ancestors are originally from? The Lake Havasu Genealogical Society (LHGS) has a library right here in Lake Havasu City that can help. LHGS  is a nonprofit organization that is committed to saving genealogical and factual information. Their goal is to inspire and help others in collecting their ancestral roots. In 1987, residents Dale and Corinne Wise, taught genealogical classes to a group of students in their garage. Havasu Speedway, Christian Rods bring car show, swap meet

LAKE HAVASU CITY – Havasu 95 Speedway and Christian Rods and Customs Car Club will be continuing their season together with their Gathering Car Show and Swap meet. Havasu 95 Speedway was built by the Havasu Off Road Association. What started out as a clay oval, took almost seven years to build. In 1989, they opened their first full season.  Only to close their gates when the clay ran out.  By 1996, they had reopened then closed it again in 2000.   Five years later, Havasu Speedway Promoter Bill Rozhon got together with friends to write letters to city council to reopen the gates….
