KINGMAN, Ariz. – A domestic dispute with an ex-girlfriend that turned violent may bring prison time for a Bullhead City man. A plea agreement was entered Aug. 4 on behalf of Nathan Garcia, 22.
Garcia pleaded guilty to an aggravated assault charge at the Mohave County Law and Justice Center in Kingman.
Bullhead City Police Department Public Information Officer said Garcia was armed with a gun when he broke into the woman’s apartment in the 500 block of Riviera Boulevard on Jan. 17. She said Garcia assaulted the woman and took her cell phone so that she could not call for help.
Deputy county attorney Eric Nolan told Superior Court Judge Megan McCoy that Garcia pointed a gun at the woman and used the weapon to strike her in the face.
The victim expressed some support for Garcia. She told the court that she didn’t think her ex should spend substantial time incarcerated.
“It isn’t for one stupid mistake that so much time of a person’s life is taken away,” she said. “Everybody makes mistakes. We all do.”
Judge McCoy told the victim she can address the court again during a Sept. 9 sentencing hearing.
Garcia is eligible for probation under terms of the deal, but he can also be sentenced to the Arizona Department of Corrections for up to five years.
