MOHAVE COUNTY – The Bureau of Land Management reports 100% containment of a wildfire that scorched 77 acres in extreme north Mohave County, just south of the Utah border near Interstate 15. The Black Fire was first spotted at midmorning Wednesday, May 8. Four engines, one water tender and a Type 3 helicopter worked the incident. KINGMAN – Mohave County Department of Public Health was notified of an incident which involves a bobcat, a wild animal. The animal tested positive for rabies in the Aquarius Mountain area (east of Kingman, off I-40). The county’s Public Health Nurses are working with the humans exposed to the bobcat while Game and Fish and Animal Control are dealing with the animal exposed. The rabies virus causes severe damage to the central nervous system causing erratic behavior and death. Human exposures to rabid animals are usually rare and can be treated through prompt administration of anti-rabies vaccine and rabies immune globulin. If…
KINGMAN – The Kingman Area Literacy Program (KALP) is excited to announce the launch of its summer tutoring session aimed at enhancing the reading skills of children in second to sixth grade. The summer session is set to begin in June 2024 and volunteers will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of children by helping them improve their reading abilities and confidence. Teaching or tutoring experience is not required as volunteers will receive training, resources, and support thanks to Cookie Barron, KALP’s new Small Group Tutoring Coordinator.
