No one was injured in an early Monday residential structure fire in Kingman. Public information officer Oscar Lopez said crews responded at 1:50 a.m. to the fire in the 800 block of Crestwood Lane. “Personnel found the area of origin in the garage and proceeded to knock down the fire,” Lopez said. “Crews were able to quickly bring the fire under control from the interior and kept it from spreading into other areas of the home and attic.” Lopez said personnel from the Northern Arizona Consolidated Fire District assisted. Cause of the fire is under investigation.

The body of a man who had been operating a remote controlled boat was recovered from Lake Havasu early Saturday. Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies responded at 6:45 a.m. to the area of Thompson Bay where various personal belongings were found along the shoreline and a remote controlled boat was spotted in the water near the buoy line.  Agency spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said it was determined that Edward Young, 59, Lake Havasu City, had been operating a boat in that area. She said Young’s body was located and recovered from ten feet of water about 75 feet from the shoreline.  …

The Kingman Area Master Gardeners are hosting a workshop for home irrigation. The workshop is free and open to the public. It will be held Saturday, May 11 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at 3179 E Suffock Ave, Kingman.

The River Valley Devils Youth Football Program will be holding a special car wash fundraiser on Saturday, May 11 at O’Reilly Auto Parts, 4699 S. Hwy 95 in Bullhead City, beginning at 8 a.m. The proceeds from the fundraiser will help the organization reach their goal of $3,900 to cover the cost of reconditioning their existing 75 helmets as well as purchasing additional helmets and equipment. The gate at the entrance to the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park will open on Wednesday, May 15 at 7:30 a.m. to mark the official opening of the North Rim for the 2019 season. Grand Canyon Lodge and Grand Canyon Trail Rides will also commence their 2019 seasonal operations. Other businesses on the Kaibab Plateau, from Jacob Lake to the park boundary, are expected to be open by May 15. The Arizona Game and Fish Department is accepting applications for $75,000 in annual grant funding for local sportsmen’s organizations to provide public, hands-on projects that are focused on the progressive development of new hunters and anglers. The Local Sportsmen’s Group grants program places a high priority on projects that involve the pursuit or harvest of fish or wildlife with a valid license (and any necessary hunt permit-tag) and are geared toward participants who have the appropriate experience and skill levels relevant to a particular project.
