Free business workshop offered

KINGMAN – The City of Kingman will soon be releasing applications for a grant that local downtown businesses can apply for to improve the facades of their historic buildings. Get a jump on the process by attending this workshop and learning how to go about it. The Mohave Community College Information Technology Department recently received a 2019 Campus Technology Impact Award.  Submissions for the five categories and 12 awards came in from colleges and universities around the world, according to the higher education online magazineCampus Technology. NACFD management shifts to Kingman Fire; Kingman Crossing tabled

KINGMAN – Management of the Northern Arizona Consolidated Fire District (NACFD) is transitioning to the management team of City of Kingman Fire Department Chief Jake Rhoades. An intergovernmental agreement detailing the arrangement was approved August 6 by the Kingman Council, following previous approval of the NACFD governing board. Rhoades said consolidated management should improve public safety, training, resource sharing and joint response performance. “It’s going to strengthen our service strategy in the region,” said Mayor Jen Miles. MCC student is 2019 Coca-Cola Leader of Promise scholar

Mohave Community College Student Christina Henslee was just selected as a 2019 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar. Henslee is one of just 207 Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society members across America named as a Promise Scholar and she will receive a $1,000 scholarship. The MCC science major received the award because of her academic excellence and campus leadership roles.  She is president of the Bullhead City campus Student Activities Council and Vice President of the campus PTK Honor Society. Downed utility pole leaves residents without power

GOLDEN SHORES – A vehicle collision involving a utility pole left 1,681 Mohave Electric Cooperative members in the Golden Shores area without power for about three hours early Tuesday morning. MEC became aware of the outage at 1:40 a.m. and crews were immediately dispatched to the scene and restored power at 4:36 a.m. Members wishing to receive outage alerts for their residence from MEC can create a SmartHub account by visiting the MEC website mohaveelectric.com. MOHAVE COUNTY – District 4 Mohave County Supervisor Jean Bishop seeks re-election next year to serve one more term before ending well more than three decades of public service. Bishop began working as a sheriff’s deputy in 1986 before transitioning to Constable, then supervisor since June 2014.
