GRAND CANYON – On September 4, in cooperation with the InterTribal Buffalo Council, Kaibab National Forest, and Arizona Game and Fish Department, National Park Service (NPS) staff successfully relocated 57 bison from the North Rim. All bison were transferred to the InterTribal Buffalo Council, who successfully transported them to the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation (Kans.), Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe (S. Dak.), Santee Sioux Tribe (Nebr.), and Modoc Nation (Okla.). Eleven additional bison were outfitted with tracking collars and released during the corralling process. MOHAVE COUNTY –The Mohave Community College fall semester is off to an exciting start with several virtual events for the 3,570 students enrolled in remote and online courses, along with on campus labs. The college is also currently enrolling students in classes that are 12 and eight weeks long versus the traditional 16 week courses. MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave County Supervisors got through Tuesday’s COVID-19 management discussion in less than 7-minutes without any of the debate over policy and data that has bogged down previous deliberation of pandemic-related topics. Department of Public Health Director Denise Burley said mass testing of hundreds of inmates at the privately operated state prison in Golden Valley went better than expected. There had been concern that COVID-19 spread among inmates could drive up the case positivity rate in Mohave County. Kingman Mayor Jen Miles said, “As COVID-19 cases and deaths surged in July, Mayors of about 90% of Arizona cities issued face covering mandates. Combined with the Governor’s Executive Orders designed to slow the spread, the state and county have seen dramatic decreases in the number of COVID-19 cases and deaths.
