The National Park Service (NPS) has selected Mike Gauthier, a veteran of the agency, as the new permanent superintendent of Lake Mead National Recreation Area beginning mid-September. KINGMAN – A veteran of local government is one of two candidates the City of Kingman will consider hiring for interim leadership. Retired Lake Havasu City Manager Charlie Cassens is in the mix to help Kingman in the aftermath of the termination of its former City Manager Ron Foggin. Following the Aug. 15 Foggin firing, the city entered a contract with Interim Public Management (IPM), a firm that refers retired public officials to provide short term leadership for communities needing administrative talent. MOHAVE COUNTY – Several Mohave County officials expressed concerns about service delivery as the Board of Supervisors approved an across-the-board hiring freeze during its Aug. 21 meeting. And some of them are now rushing back to the board requesting exceptions to the hiring stoppage directive. Seven department heads are requesting hiring freeze exceptions for nearly four dozen positions. Sheriff Doug Schuster leads the way in seeking 28 exceptions for his department followed by county attorney Matt Smith who seeks freeze relief for eight positions in his domain.
