Public Works achieves lauded accreditation for the fifth time

MOHAVE COUNTY – The Mohave County Public Works Department†has recently received full accreditation by the American Public Works Association (APWA) for the fifth ntime. This accreditation formally verifies and recognizes that the agency is in full compliance with the recommended management practices set forth in APWAís†Public Works Management Practices Manual.

Open to all governmental agencies with responsibilities for public works functions, initial accreditation from APWA is for a four-year period, during which time semi-annual updates will be required to demonstrate continuing compliance. After that time, there is a re-accreditation process which builds on the original accreditation, encouraging continuous improvement and compliance with newly identified practices.

The purpose of accreditation is to promote excellence in the operation and management of a public works agency, its programs and employees. Accreditation is designed to assist the agency in continuous improvement of operations and management, and in providing a valid and objective evaluation of agency programs as a service to the public and the profession.

Steven Latoski, the countyís Public Works Director says ìthis fifth full accreditation, marking 20 continuous accredited years, punctuates Mohave County Public Works, Flood Control, and Emergency Managementís delivery of services to the very best in public works practice.† It reflects the skill, experience, and enthusiasm of our incredible staff at all levels that perform their duties to an exceptional level of consistency and completeness.î The long time director adds, ìwe take pride and satisfaction in our work enhancing the quality of life of those served across Mohave County, and APWAís accreditation affirms us working under a sound business model through a talented group of public works professionals.î Formally awarded the prestigious accreditation by APWAís Accreditation Council for the fifth time, the Mohave County Public Works was awarded APWA Accreditation back in 2007.
