Business Spotlight: Living Waters Hospice

The biggest misconception of hospice is that it means you are giving up or that it’s a place you go to die. In reality, hospice care focuses on improving the patient’s quality of life, providing comfort, and managing symptoms for both the patient and their loved ones.

Living Waters Hospice is a family-owned business that has been operating in southern California for 20 years, and has been servicing Mohave County and La Paz county for 13 years. Unlike most hospices in the area, it covers a much broader area and is the only faith-based hospice that focuses not only on physical well-being but spiritual well-being.

Serving the community means a lot to the company’s president, Blaine Whitson, who started the business as an associate pastor and social worker. “It is an honor for people to allow us to come into their homes, into their lives, and help them through a very difficult time of life,” he says. “At Living Waters Hospice, we treat each patient and family as if they were our own loved ones.”

Living Waters Hospice has expanded their service areas and have taken great strides to service our communities and beyond with a large territory. Service areas are: Kingman, Golden Valley, Valle Vista, Peach Springs, Chloride, Dolan Springs, Meadview, Wikiup, White Hills, Bullhead City, Fort Mohave, Mohave Valley, Lake Havasu City, Parker, Quartzite, Bouse, Topock/Golden Shores and Yucca.

“We are excited to offer hospice services to rural communities in Mohave County,” Blaine Whitson said.

Hospice services are delivered wherever the patient calls “home.” That may be a personal residence, board and care, an assisted living home, or a nursing home. Hospice can also help with facility placement or respite stays. Services include physical and mental wellness care, equipment, mobility aides, and ongoing family support.

Services are also provided by social workers, chaplains, and volunteers, who provide emotional and spiritual support and relief. Volunteers may provide caregiver relief, such as acting as a sitter for the caregiver to allow them the ability to run errand or go to appointments, and volunteers can also provide companionship for patients and family.

Patients, families, and caregivers who are interested in hospice care may call Living Waters for a free consultation with a hospice representative. Referrals can also be made by physicians, hospitals, nursing homes, or assisted living facilities.

Medical Care is comprised of doctors, nurses, and aids with decades of experience in the field of palliative care. Hospice services are often covered by Medicare, Medicaid, or various insurance companies.

Living Waters Hospice has been voted by the community as the best hospice for the past four years in Kingman, and best hospice in Bullhead City from 2018–2022 (and again in 2024). Living Waters Hospice also won the Andy Devine Award for Business of the Year in 2023.

Living Waters is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mon–Fri and is located at 3711 US Highway 68 in Golden Valley. For more information, call 928-565-9000 or email livingwaters@lwhospiceca.com.
