Bullhead homeless students receive Thanksgiving food

BULLHEAD CITY / LAUGHLIN – Eight families of homeless Bullhead City Elementary School District students received Thanksgiving meals this week, courtesy of the annual “Feed A Family” charitable initiative of the Aquarius and Edgewater Casino Resorts.  Now in its ninth year, “Feed A Family” allows Aquarius and Edgewater guests to donate player points or cash.  Each $25 food box feeds a family of four and includes a seven-pound ham or 12-pound turkey along with potatoes, gravy, vegetables, rolls, cranberry sauce, pie and whipped cream.  The properties cover any shortages.

The BCESD homeless program received eight boxes for Thanksgiving.  It was the first of 12 Tri-State area agencies and programs to receive the Thanksgiving donations.

At any given time, the Bullhead City Elementary and Colorado River Union High School Districts can average a combined 75 to 200 students who are considered homeless, which covers a wide range.  They can include students living with their families out of cars, families in emergency shelters or crisis housing, students who have been thrown out of the house, older students who have been emancipated by the court system because of family dysfunction, and more.

“Feed A Family” donations at the Aquarius and Edgewater continue through December 20 for Christmas and holiday meals.  The Aquarius and its affiliated properties have had long-standing sponsorship programs of BCESD schools.
