BST brings LP & the Vinyl to the stage

KINGMAN  – The Beale Street Theater proudly presents LP & The Vinyl on Friday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. After years of acclaimed performances and recordings for jazz enthusiasts across the U.S., four San Diego-based musicians joined forces to form LP & The Vinyl — a band dedicated to exploring the art of song in a wholly original way.

The group features renowned jazz, blues, and gospel singer Leonard Patton alongside the critically acclaimed Danny Green Trio, composed of pianist Danny Green, bassist Justin Grinnell, and drummer Julien Cantelm. Their music is an exhilarating blend of influences, drawing from jazz, R&B, rock, Brazilian music, classical, and even 80s and 90s hits. The band’s repertoire spans reimagined renditions of iconic songs by artists like Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, and David Bowie, inventive interpretations of jazz standards, and original compositions – all unified by their fearless creativity and expressive energy.

Every LP & The Vinyl performance is a journey. Through Patton’s infectious charisma and the group’s remarkable chemistry, audiences are treated to an emotional and spontaneous musical experience that is “bursting with life,” as described by All About Jazz’s Dan McClenaghan. Critics have been quick to praise the group’s artistry, “From tight arrangements to free-wheeling improvisations, this telepathic trio evolves into an equally intercommunicating quartet with Leonard Patton. If there is a group worthy of special attention and reintroduction in jazz, it’s LP and the Vinyl.” – Travis Rogers Jr., The Sentinel “The result sounds both comfortingly familiar and brand new -which is a pretty remarkable accomplishment.” – Rick Anderson, CD Hotlist Since forming in 2015, LP & The Vinyl have performed at premier venues and festivals including Telluride Jazz Festival, Vail Jazz Festival, Laguna Festival of the Arts, Chandler Center for the Arts, and the Museum of Making Music.

Their debut album, Heard And Seen (Origin Records, 2020), showcases their signature style with fresh takes on songs by The Beatles, David Bowie, and Tears for Fears, alongside originals and jazz classics. Beyond their performance careers, all four members are dedicated educators, teaching at institutions including the University of San Diego and Grossmont Community College, and regularly leading workshops and clinics nationwide. Tickets range from $15 to $35.
