October Citizen of the Month named

Kingman Route 66 Rotary Club recently presented MyKenzie DeVries, a ninth grade student in the Cambridge Program at Lee Williams High School, with the club’s October Citizen of the Month award. At age five, MyKenzie began raising money for the community, with her first fundraiser raising $100 to pay for school supplies in school. Along with her sister and an assist from their Mom, fundraisers went from a lemonade stand to making items to putting on a car wash at 66 Auto Sales. To date $3,350.01 has been raised with all proceeds going to the Kingman Cancer Care Unit.

LAKE HAVASU CITY – Locals gathered to view marching bands from local schools, community organizations, and neighborhood businesses on Saturday, Oct. 28 for the London Bridge Days Parade on Saturday, Oct. 28. This year’s theme was “Peace, Love, and Helping Havasu.”  London Bridge was originally built in the 1830s and ranged to the River Thames in London, England. By 1968, the bridge was bought by entrepreneur Robert P. McCulloch. McCulloch planned the community of Lake Havasu City in 1964. He had outer granite blocks that originated from the bridge were brought to the U.S. to create the London Bridge in Lake Havasu City. MCC federally designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution 

MOHAVE COUNTY – The U.S. Department of Education has designated Mohave Community College as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI).  An accredited higher education institution qualifies as an HSI when at least 25% of its enrollment is Hispanic or Latino students.  Nearly 27% of students currently enrolled at MCC identify as Hispanic/Latino, a percentage that started increasing in 2009. According to the Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities, Arizona has a total of 21 Hispanic Serving Institutions, and as HSIs, they have the opportunity to apply for more federal grants to better serve their students and communities.  Across MCC’s four campuses, the…
