Fogging update: surveillance leads to adult mosquito control

Mohave County – Mosquito surveillance conducted this week by the Mohave County Environmental Health Division (MCEHD) revealed the following locations that met the protocol to conduct fogging. The MCEHD uses the CDC’s recommended matrix as a guide of when to fog.  FOGGING: Adult mosquito control application will begin on Friday evening August 2nd around 8:00 pm, weather permitting. Increased gambling activity in Nevada for June

The Nevada casino industry reports increased gambling activity for the month of June. The Nevada Gaming Control Board reports that the statewide gambling win was a little more than $1-billion in June, up about 11.6% from the same month the previous year. The same casinos totaled $933-million in June, 2018. Clubs along the Colorado River cashed a gaming win of $39.4-million. That’s up 8.4% from the $36.4-million gaming win for Laughlin casinos in June of last year.

Valdez gets seven more years for selling drugs in jail

An inmate serving prison time for drug convictions will spend more time behind bars after pleading guilty to possessing dangerous drugs for sale while housed in the state prison facility in Golden Valley. A 2023 release date had been in effect for Joseph Valdez, 46, who is serving a nine year sentence for Maricopa County drug convictions. Mohave County Superior Court Judge Rick Lambert, however, imposed another seven year sentence July 23 that will run consecutive to Valdez’ nine year hitch. Second judge rejects Romero’s proposed plea

A second judge has rejected a plea agreement mandating a 3.5-year prison term for a Bullhead City man who is charged in separate assault cases. The case involving 26-year-old Luis Romero was reassigned to Mohave County Superior Court Judge Rick Lambert after Judge Billy Sipe rejected the proposed deal on July 2. Like Sipe, Lambert found the punishment to be too lenient when he refused to accept the same plea agreement during a July 23 hearing in Kingman.
