KINGMAN, Ariz. – An 18-month prison term has been imposed for a Lake Havasu City man who racked up another aggravated domestic violence conviction. The prescribed punishment was imposed after Jacob Whalin, 30, pleaded guilty during a July 20 hearing in Kingman.
Deputy Mohave County Attorney James Schoppmann said Whalin disturbed the neighborhood when he visited a former roommate in the 1300 block of Tangeray Drive on June 19. Schoppmann said he knocked and banged on the door where he was not welcome and issued threats that he was going to smash vehicle windows.
Schoppmann said the defendant’s aggression earned prior convictions in recent years. Court records confirm separate convictions for aggravated assault and aggravated domestic violence.
Defense attorney Ross Carponelli said Whalin accepts responsibility and realizes he should not have confronted the former roommate and that he needs treatment for substance abuse. He said Whalin is making sobriety and impulse control his top priorities, adding that he attends narcotics anonymous classes daily.
