KINGMAN – What started out as a fun challenge has blossomed into a full scale specialty event to begin the New Year. The Polar Bear Plunge is open to anyone interested in starting off their new year in a “chilling” way by braving the near freezing waters of Centennial Pool, 3333 Harrison St, at exactly noon on New Year’s Day, January 1. ‘Sleeper’ charged with drugs, weapons, DUI

KINGMAN – A man who fell asleep behind the wheel at a local gas station was arrested and charged with drug and weapon offenses. Casey Ryan Pepper, 32, of Lake Havasu City, was found by Kingman Police Department (KPD) officers, asleep at the fuel pumps at a gas station in the 700 block of W. Beale St. in the wee morning hours of Thursday, Dec. 19. Upon investigation, Pepper was found to possess a firearm, methamphetamine, and paraphernalia. Great Dane rescued from residential blaze

LAKE HAVASU CITY – The Lake Havasu City Fire Department (LHCFD) responded to reports of smoke in a residence in the 4000 block of Black Hills Bay the afternoon of Friday, Dec. 20. According to a LHCFD press release, the homeowner reported a fire after finding smoke in the living room; he was able to evacuate. The first arriving fire company reported 20 to 30 foot flames coming from the roof of the residence. Panhandling signage is hot topic at BHC council

BULLHEAD CITY – At the Dec. 17 Bullhead City’s City Council meeting an $88,000 odor control system was approved for purchase. The EG-8.2T Duage Biotrickling Odor Control System will be installed near Lakeside Dr., to help with odor caused by sewer waste. Signage was also discussed to discourage the public from encouraging panhandlers in the Bullhead City area. Passive panhandling has been ruled by state and federal courts to be protected free speech. 13-year-old arrested for vandalism in Kingman

KINGMAN – On Thursday, December 19, Kingman Police Department officers arrested a 13-year-old middle school student in connection to more than 50 incidents of criminal damage by graffiti. KPD had been taking reports over the past several days in referenced to multiple accounts of graffiti. According to a KPD press release, the total amount of damage is estimated to be in excess of $31,000. Officers developed suspect information on Wednesday.
