Havasu mom takes plea in baby’s death

KINGMAN – It took a half dozen tries, but a Lake Havasu City woman charged in the death of her toddler daughter has finally entered a plea agreement. Brittany Rodriquez, 27, pleaded guilty Wednesday (June 17) after balking at change of plea hearings conducted on March 19 and June 10. Judge Billy Sipe noted that no fewer than six change of plea hearings had been scheduled on Rodriquez’ behalf while her case has been pending. Fireworks: Leave them to the experts

According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), fireworks started an estimated 19,500 fires in 2018, including 1,900 structure fires, 500 vehicle fires, and 17,100 outside and other fires. These fires caused five deaths, 46 civilian injuries, and $105 million in direct property damage. While fireworks are an emblem of July 4 celebrations, they are simply too dangerous and unpredictable to be used safely by consumers. Even sparklers, which are often considered harmless, burn as hot as 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit and can cause third-degree burns. The Bullhead City Fire Department would like to encourage citizens to leave fireworks to the…

BULLHEAD CITY – Officials with the Colorado River Union High School District are fine-tuning plans to re-open the district’s three high schools at the end of July.  Administrators have worked on various scenarios since the State-mandated shutdown in the spring.  However, nothing could be finalized until guidelines were received from the Arizona Department of Education (ADE).  Those were released in early June.  Early July is the target for the finalized plans. “We’re making progress on the process,” said Superintendent Todd Flora.  “We continue to examine the three options outlined by ADE.  Any recommendations to the governing board will also implement…
