Open business benchmark set for Mohave County

MOHAVE COUNTY – Some gyms, bars, movie theaters and water related business enterprises shuttered by Governor Doug Ducey’s COVID-19 executive orders can apply to reopen in Mohave County. Department of Public Health Director Denise Burley said that became possible last Thursday morning when the Arizona Department of Health Services reported that Mohave County has enjoyed a two week stretch of less than 10% case positivity. Burley said the businesses must submit an “attestation” to the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) which essentially involves a pledge of commitment to complying with guidelines for operating their establishment.  “With an attestation, indoor…

AZGFD wildlife managers need sportsmen to be extra “eyes and ears”

Arizona has almost 114 million square miles of harsh deserts, rugged canyons, sweeping plateaus and thick forests that are spread across some 15 counties.   That’s a lot of territory to cover for the 97 wildlife managers, or game wardens, of the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD). It’s a monumental task, done daily by dedicated people who are charged with being part officer, part biologist, part educator, and all-the-time conduit to the public. With the start of Arizona’s big game hunting seasons right around the corner, AZGFD is asking sportsmen to help ensure the state’s most precious resource —…

LMRFD board needs more businesspersons

Dear Editor, Susan DeLara of Dolan Springs was voted onto the Lake Mohave Ranchos Fire Department (LMRFD) Board, by the four existing members, at Friday’s meeting. She fills the position vacated by Larry Tennant’s resignation in June. She will complete Larry’s term through 2022. Susan aced the most grueling and lengthy interview by Chair Debora Cass of a prospective Board member that I have seen in my nearly 15 years of involvement with the LMRFD. Susan described plenty of experience serving on Boards. More impressively, though, her answers to Cass’s questions revealed her to be a reasonable, independent thinker, who…
