ADOT not implementing roundabout

A heavily opposed roundabout proposed as a public safety traffic control device in west Mohave County will not be installed. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has determined the roundabout will not be implemented on State Route 95 at Aztec Road.

“Rather, ADOT will install protected left-turn phasing and a raised center median,” a news release stated. “Protected left-turn phasing will improve safety by only allowing left turns from SR 95 onto Aztec Road with a green arrow.”

ADOT said the new plan will be sufficient in the short term.

“In the long term, with a continued increase in traffic volume, additional improvements may be needed,” the statement said. “ADOT will also continue to monitor the crash history at the intersection and determine if additional safety improvements are needed.”
