There have been a couple arrests for tampering with politic signs.
In Arizona this is a Class 2 misdemeanor. Maximum sentence for such an offense is up to four months in jail and a fine not to exceed $750. If the offender has prior convictions within two years, the sentence is increased to six months and a fine of $2500. Within seven days of an election the offense becomes a Class 1 misdemeanor with even more severe penalties.
It’s been reported hundreds of Harris/Walz signs have been defaced, destroyed, or removed in Mohave County. The majority of these actions have occurred in Kingman, Bullhead City and Lake Havasu City. Over a hundred Harris/Walz signs have been defaced in Bullhead City alone. Of interest is the fact that each 24”x18” double-sided corrugated sign costs around twenty dollars.
Should the offenders be found guilty they could be assessed damages resulting from their actions by the campaigns.
The curious thing is in this area elections have been won resoundingly by Republicans. So, are those targeting Harris/Walz signs acting out of hate or fear? George Francuski
