Message for law enforcement regarding recent school threats

MOHAVE COUNTY – Law enforcement officials have been tracking a nationwide school threat that has been circulating via social media. This threat references a series of escalating incidents culminating with a fire alarm being pulled and a shooter targeting those evacuating. This threat has impacted multiple states, to include Arizona.

The origin has been repeatedly investigated and was found to be non-credible, meaning the person(s) sending the original threat has not been identified. This threat has been shared and spread throughout, causing fear and disruption to our educational facilities.

The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, as well as other law enforcement agencies across the country, take these threats seriously and continue to investigate them to the fullest. Detectives with the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office have conducted several interviews and at this time there is no indication that this threat originated from our area.

However, the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, as well as other state and local law enforcement agencies, do not take these threats lightly and continue to provide safety measures for our youth and school employees. This agency is aware that in a real event, we will not be afforded notice.

Therefore, we will continue to train and plan a rapid response to eliminate such a threat. School officials are taking safeguards in the event of a fire alarm activation. If, during the course of our investigation, we identify the person or persons responsible for such a threat, they will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law, as we have done in previous investigations.

As parents, it is our responsibility to monitor our children’s activities on social media and report any suspicious activity. Furthermore, our children should be encouraged not to share such threats online but report them to the proper authorities.
