Mack makes history as first defendant in new courthouse

KINGMAN – The new Mohave County Courthouse addition holds its first jury trials next week. Superior Court jury trials held in the adjacent historic courthouse in downtown Kingman were suspended in December, when coronavirus case numbers were spiking.

Prospective jurors will be summoned Monday for the trial of Greg Mack. The 49-year-old Kingman man is accused of scuffling with Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies during a 2018 landlord tenant dispute in Valle Vista. Mack is charged with aggravated assault upon an officer, resisting arrest, escape and criminal trespass.

Mack is represented by private counsel from Phoenix. Prosecutor Jeff Haws said the trial is expected to conclude next Wednesday.

The trial will be conducted by Superior Court Judge Derek Carlisle.

The second jury trial in the new four-story court building involves a 2019 incident in Bullhead City. Alton Ervin, 75, faces 3 aggravated assault counts and a leaving the scene of an accident-related charge.

Ervin’s trial before Judge Billy Sipe starts Tuesday.
