Standoff ends in fatal shooting

KINGMAN – The Lake Havasu City police department will investigate a shooting involving Mohave County Sheriff’s office (MCSO) personnel and a civilian who was killed in north Kingman. Independent investigation by outside agencies is standard procedure in Officer Involved Shootings (OIS). Spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said a report of a possibly suicidal male drew sheriff’s office response to a residence in the 4200 block of Irving St. at 10:42 p.m. Saturday, October 10. Make American great again

Dear Editor, I want to thank Darrell R. Scott for his editorial, “What will you do on judgement” article. I know that President Trump has his way of doing and saying things that’s not liked by some but I don’t know of any other president that has worked so tirelessly to maintain the sanctity of religions and re-instill morals back into everyone’s lives. Inside and some outside sources have been swaying Americans away from these ideals for many years now and they are turning our country into an anti-constitutional state, costing many lives, dividing our people against each other and…

Dear Editor, October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. The goal is to heighten awareness so victims get the strength to leave their abusers, so neighbors have the courage to call police and for individuals to recognize when a toxic relationship is unhealthy for you and your family.  Physical violence, sexual violence, stalking, emotional abuse, psychological aggression and intimidation are all forms of domestic violence. Many victims do not leave relationships out of fear, lack of support, minimum legal resources and economic barriers.  Most people are already aware that domestic violence happens. But everyone needs to be aware of their own…

Foster vs Hammersley: Dist 1 candidate files suit against the other, alleging campaign fraud

KINGMAN – A post balloting battle has been quietly unfolding behind the scenes between two Dist. 1 Mohave County supervisor candidates who finished behind supervisor-elect Travis Lingenfelter in the Aug. 3 primary election. Becky Foster filed an elections complaint on Sept. 2, alleging Jim Hamersley committed fraud and perjury involving claims of residency and campaign finance disclosure violations. In a press release and in her formal complaint Foster alleged Hamersley and his wife lived in their more upscale home in the Rancho Santa Fe subdivision at 1100 Rawhide Dr. in Dist. 4, while fraudulently claiming residency at their “modest” rental…

COVID-19 numbers for Mohave County

MOHAVE COUNTY – COVID-19 has resulted in 672 hospitalizations in Mohave County dating back to the start of the pandemic. That’s roughly 17% of the 3,959 people who’ve tested positive in northwest Arizona. Burley told board members that 3,572 people infected in Mohave County have recovered from the coronavirus. 217 deaths have been recorded. Burley said new coronavirus case counts have averaged 61 people over the last three weeks. Nursing Services Manager Lynn Valentine said there’s…
