Mayor to present African American History Month proclamation

KINGMAN – City of Kingman Mayor Jen Miles and Council will present a proclamation designating the month of February, “African American History Month.” The council meeting is held at the Kingman City Complex, located at 310 N. Fourth St., beginning at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 21. London Bridge Republican Women’s Club will host a dinner on Monday, Feb. 3 at Shugrue’s Bridgeview Room, 1425 N. McCulloch Blvd. The guest speaker will be Daniel McCarthy, candidate for U.S. Senate. Representatives from Martha McSally’s campaign will also be on hand. Check-in is at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $18 at the door. Mother, daughter killed in traffic crash

LAKE HAVASU CITY – A ten-year-old girl and her mother were killed in a two-vehicle traffic accident Sunday afternoon in Lake Havasu City. Police Sergeant Jerry Burns said the accident at Fall Springs Wash on SR 95 was reported at 3:24 p.m. Burns said a male driver who was the only occupant allowed his southbound Range Rover to cross the center line, colliding head-on with a northbound Infinity SUV. A female adult and her daughter were dead at the scene of the accident. Burns said two siblings were flown to Phoenix Children’s hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. The man…

A few days ago, in an idle moment, I watched the highway traffic from my front porch. There was the usual mix of traffic, but as I watched carefully and began to pay closer attention, I was struck by the amazing number of trucks on the road. That casual observation brought me to do a very informal count of the number of highway freight trucks passing my vantage point. I arbitrarily chose to count twenty five passing trucks (including both directions) and then check the time required for that number. The number of minutes for that count was six minutes….
