Cliff Collapse Reveals 313-million-year-old Fossil Footprints in Grand Canyon National Park

GRAND CANYON – Paleontological research has confirmed a series of recently discovered fossils tracks are the oldest recorded tracks of their kind to date within Grand Canyon National Park. In 2016, Norwegian geology professor, Allan Krill, was hiking with his students when he made a surprising discovery. Lying next to the trail, in plain view of the many hikers, was a boulder containing conspicuous fossil footprints. Krill was intrigued, and he sent a photo to his colleague, Stephen Rowland, a paleontologist at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. The trailside tracks have turned out to be even more significant than…

BOS discusses mass COVID-19 testing events

MOHAVE COUNTY – “Confusing” was a word often repeated Thursday as Mohave County Supervisors spent another hour continuing their multiple meeting debate over coronavirus data, and how and when it should be reported. The dizzying discussion resulted in votes to issue the daily fact sheet and press release at the same time each evening, and that 5:00 p.m. would be the cutoff point for 24-hour reporting periods, rather than noon.  Chairman Jean Bishop questioned why the board essentially approved one motion it already passed earlier this month. An answer came from supervisor Buster Johnson.  “I believe that staff went ahead…

Investigation underway following fatal officer-involved shooting

MOHAVE COUNTY – The Bullhead City police department is conducting an independent investigation of a fatal officer-involved-shooting in Lake Havasu City. The practice is customary, as is the paid administrative leave of the two officers involved while the deadly gunfire exchange is under review. The drama began unfolding about noon Wednesday when a Mohave County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to serve an order of protection on 39-year-old Ronald Chipman at his home in the 3300 block of Pocahontas Drive. “Chipman reportedly pointed a weapon at the deputy and additional law enforcement were called for assistance,” said Bullhead City police spokeswoman Emily…
