Dept of Forestry and Fire Management welcomes new State Fire Marshal

PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management (DFFM) and the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) proudly announce the appointment of Arizona’s Fire Marshal.

Charles E. Dowdy is DFFM’s newly appointed Fire Marshal with more than 30 years of professional experience in fire and life safety, code enforcement, and construction. His experience includes 22 years in the fire equipment industry where he served in a leadership role as a Service Manager followed by 11 years of dedicated commitment within the fire service.

“I am honored to serve as the Arizona State Fire Marshal and continue this rewarding journey in the fire service. This opportunity is both a privilege and responsibility that I do not take lightly to ensure public and life safety remain at the forefront of the state,” said OSFM Fire Marshal Charles Dowdy. “My leadership is grounded in servant leadership, by supporting personnel, removing organizational barriers, and aligning fire prevention and enforcement efforts with operational priorities to strengthen community protection and enhance safety across the state. I am proud to stand alongside an exceptional team of professionals at the department whose commitment and experience for public safety only strengthen our mission and help ensure a safer Arizona for all.”

As the state’s Fire Marshal, Dowdy will oversee community risk reduction programs, development plan reviews, fire and life safety inspections, and regulatory compliance to ensure safe and effective operations. Prior to this role, Dowdy served as the OSFM’s Fire Plans Examiner. He also served as the Assistant Fire Marshal with Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority.
